Contractors using Lutron products require pricing information to submit proposals for construction jobs. The unique nature of each job made it challenging for Lutron to provide quick and accurate price estimates, leading to delays for our business partners. This situation often resulted in frustration for contractors, who were sometimes forced to either postpone bids or submit less competitive proposals.
Our objective was to develop an application that streamlined interactions among contractors, distributors, and Lutron associates. This application aimed to reduce the wait time for essential pricing information needed for construction bids. Additionally, we focused on boosting sales of the Vive system by providing contractors with quick and transparent cost estimates.
QuEst-D, or Quick Estimate & Design Assistant, is a free, easy-to-use, and code-compliant software. It guides contractors through basic project information and instantly provides a Lutron wireless lighting control solution, project estimates, and a bill of materials. This strategy not only enhances transparency for contractors and expedites response times but also enables Lutron to amass data more efficiently for quicker and more accurate future pricing.
Despite initial adoption challenges, the QuEst-D app gradually became popular among contractors, who appreciated its ability to streamline their workflow and shorten the bidding process. The application facilitated a 28% year-over-year growth of Vive. Although this fell short of the more aspirational 50% target, Lutron recognized and appreciated the collaborative effort and expressed interest in continuing ventures like this in the future.
